Mountains and Clouds – Alexander Calder

The monumental Mountains and Clouds sculpture by Alexander Calder is a signature feature of the Hart Senate Office Building atrium in Washington, D.C. CPR served as the lead conservator for the assessment, spot repairs, and general cleaning of the sculpture as part of its ongoing maintenance under CPR’s Preventive Care & Ongoing Maintenance service. The treatment focused on stabilizing surfaces, addressing areas of paint loss, and maintaining the aesthetic and structural integrity of the large black metal forms. The work ensures that this important piece of public art remains in excellent condition and continues to reflect Calder’s vision.

Stefan Knapp Wall Sculpture – Museum of the City of New York

This vibrant wall sculpture by artist Stefan Knapp was previously part of a private collection in Manhattan before being relocated to the Museum of the City of New York. The piece underwent detailed cleaning and stabilization to address surface degradation and restore its color vibrancy. The conservation ensured the artwork’s safe installation and improved its visual impact in its new museum setting.

Lou Costello Sculpture – Paterson, New Jersey

This bronze sculpture of Lou Costello, located in Paterson, New Jersey, underwent patina restoration and surface treatment. The work involved cleaning, stabilizing, and re-toning the metal to restore its original luster while protecting it from environmental wear. The result preserves both the artist’s intent and the sculpture’s presence as a beloved public landmark.

World War I French Field Gun – Norwalk, Connecticut

This French field gun from World War I, located in Norwalk, Connecticut, received a full surface conservation and structural stabilization treatment. The cannon was cleaned, corrosion was mitigated, and a historically appropriate coating system was applied to ensure long-term preservation outdoors. The project highlights CPR’s experience with large-scale military artifacts and outdoor metal conservation.

This marble figure, part of the Lambert Castle Museum collection of the Passaic County Historical Society, underwent a full conservation treatment. The sculpture was carefully cleaned to remove surface dirt and discoloration, restoring the marble’s original appearance. Missing elements, including a finger, were skillfully reconstructed and fabricated using conservation-grade materials and reversible techniques. The treatment restored the artwork’s visual integrity while maintaining its historical authenticity and structural stability.
